They're replacing a late '80s building with another late '80s building?

No they are replacing a late 80's building with a late 70's one :)

it reminds me of a couple of buildings on South Tce. At least this one isn't a simple glass box.

Are you serious? I am quite impressed by this building. Something different in the skyline instead of the bland old glass box.

Just hurry up and build it.

Green light for Hindmarsh Square bank building
SARAH MARTIN From: The Advertiser February 16, 2010 12:00am

BENDIGO and Adelaide Bank has received development approval for a $105 million 10-storey green-star office building on Hindmarsh Square.

The building, designed by Adelaide architectural firm Hassell, was approved by the State Government's Development Assessment Commission last Thursday.

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank project director Stella Thredgold said gaining design approval was a major milestone for the company, but internal approval for the project was still to be given.

"Now that we have achieved approval through DAC, the bank will determine what the accommodation strategy will be in Adelaide," she said.

"The bank is committed to this sort of quality accommodation in Adelaide and it is committed to the state of South Australia, and all those factors will be considered to determine the company's strategy moving forward."

Ms Thredgold said the commission had applauded the architects for the design of the environmentally friendly building. It was designed by Hassell's Adelaide and Melbourne studios, headed by designers Mariano De Duonni and Anna Fairbank.

A final decision on construction of the new headquarters is expected by the end of March, with the building to be completed by 2012.

When complete the new Pirie St building will house the company's 900 Adelaide staff and will bring together the company's three separate offices.

Although I hate being cynical, I've got a bad feeling this wont look as good as the renders depict it.

For comparisons sake, does anybody know the height of the current Adelaide bank building?

I wonder what will be on the ground floor? just a bank?
there are already 3 nighclubs in the immediate vicinity, would be great to see another one.

The bank branch of course will be on the ground floor, but there is also space for a cafe/restaurant.

Good news that this one looks like going ahead.
If you look at their recent performance they've been doing well.
There share price has nearly double over the last 8 months and will
most likely keep on going up.

Looks reasonable from that angle, but would like to see a render of a more realistic angle, looking at it straight on.
