ATO Commits to CCT8

Russell Emerson from the Advertiser reports.

ATO backs new $200m Adelaide office building

ADELAIDE will gain a new $200 office building with the support of the Australian Taxation Office.

Aspen Group announced this morning the Tax Office would bring 3000 people to its Tower 8 project on Franklin St, taking up 30,000 sq m in a 15-year lease.

The project is part of Aspen's massive City Central project bordered by Waymouth, King William, Flinders and Bentham St and represents the largest property deal done across Australia this year.

Aspen's shares rose 1.5c to 51c in early trade.

BENDIGO and Adelaide Bank has received development approval for a $105 million 10-storey green-star office building on Hindmarsh Square.

The building, designed by Adelaide architectural firm Hassell, was approved by the State Government's Development Assessment Commission last Thursday.

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank project director Stella Thredgold said gaining design approval was a major milestone for the company, but internal approval for the project was still to be given.

"Now that we have achieved approval through DAC, the bank will determine what the accommodation strategy will be in Adelaide," she said.

"The bank is committed to this sort of quality accommodation in Adelaide and it is committed to the state of South Australia, and all those factors will be considered to determine the company's strategy moving forward."

Ms Thredgold said the commission had applauded the architects for the design of the environmentally friendly building. It was designed by Hassell's Adelaide and Melbourne studios, headed by designers Mariano De Duonni and Anna Fairbank.

A final decision on construction of the new headquarters is expected by the end of March, with the building to be completed by 2012.

When complete the new Pirie St building will house the company's 900 Adelaide staff and will bring together the company's three separate offices.
